COLD WEATHER HAIR AND SKIN ROUTINE
Vail, Colorado
With all the fun winter brings (like holidays, snow days, and nights by the fire), it also brings dry air and cold weather that can wreak havoc on our skin. Here is my essential hair care survival guide to protect your hair during cold winter months.
Protect your hair like you protect your hands from the cold. Wearing your hair in a protective style is the best way to protect the strands from extreme temperatures. You can style it in a braid or a low bun tucked into your winter coat. I always braid my hair when I go skiing to keep it controlled. Using these hair ties from Amazon shop: here
While you might be craving a hot shower after the slopes, the cold water rule still applies. So, warm yourself up with a hot bath or shower, but use lukewarm or cold water to wash and rinse off your hair. Cool water seals down the cuticles making the hair look shinier.
Also, avoid stepping outside with wet hair. When hair is wet, it’s 3 times more fragile than when it’s dry. Never -and I mean never- go outside with wet or humid hair: it can freeze and break! Blow dry your hair on low or medium heat.
Next, conditioning your hair in the winter is very important to help add hydration back. You can use a lightweight conditioner that can work as a leave-in after the shower, use a deep conditioning treatment, or seal the ends with your favorite hair oil when it starts to feel frizzy. I love Davines OI oil. All these products are available at House of Mane. So make sure to stock during your next visit.
And lastly, I also supplement with the following products: (you can use these in any weather, I take these supplements in Miami as well).
Agent nature - holi mane: I’ve been using this for hair growth and I’m seeing really great results. I highly recommend this for people suffering from hair loss after covid and postpartum hair loss (but consult with your doctor if you are breastfeeding).
Just like with skincare, it’s important to alternate products. So make sure you have at least two hair masks to alternate. Masks are designed to do many different things so chances are you need more than one. I recommend having one mask for hydration/ and one for repair. I absolutely love Oribe’s Signature mask for moisture and Oribe’s Gold Lust. It contains protein, which is exactly what you need to repair damaged hair. Both are available at House of Mane, we carry the entire line.
Cold weather skincare routine
Just like hair, your skin also requires a different beauty routine. Here is my cold-weather skin-care routine. It’s pretty simple and does not have too many steps.
Vitamin C serum by SkinCeuticals
Face moisturizer- la mer. I have tried many brands but nothing seems to work as well on my skin personally!
Eye cream - la mer (it’s worth the splurge)
Guerlain bee glow youth moisturizer- layer on top of my la mer cream for an extra glow.
And lastly, don’t forget to apply sunscreen. This one is for all weather, anywhere.
TiZo spf 40 - love the ingredients and application of this sunscreen. You can find it on my Amazon Shop here
Ok, I lied. One more product but this one is a must for your body. The de la heart - shea butter & jojoba oil. I like to layer them on top of each other, I just feel my skin. gets different benefits especially in the cold when you can’t get enough moisture. Here is the body collection
I hope you find these tips helpful.
